Since the 1990s, the history of the ZFB has been representative of pioneering work in paper preservation.

Many technologies, such as papersave® mass deacidification or our new ZFB:2 deacidification process were development in-house by us to help preserve cultural treasures for the next generations.

 

We moved into our new company headquarters in Leipzig, Germany, in 2011. The new ZFB building offers best structures for effective restoration linked with future-oriented research and development. The 2nd and revised edition of Moczarski/Kobolds „Bestandserhaltung – Ein Ratgeber für Verwaltung, Archive und Bibliotheken“ ("Preservation - A guidebook for administration, archives and libraries") is published. Unfortunately, the book is published only in German. Jana Moczarski, conservator at the ZFB, has contributed significantly to this book. The basics of preservation are imparted on nearly 300 pages. News about  ZFB:2 mass deacidification
We are glad that the first German institutions have ordered the deacidification with our new ZFB:2 deacidification process. Therefore, we will deacidify for example over 10 tons bound archival material with the ZFB:2 process for the LWL-Archivamt für Westfalen, Münster.

For many years we have been successfully deacidifying bound and unbound paper with our established papersave process. Our completely new ZFB:2 process represents another pioneering achievement: it is the first liquid mass deacidification process that uses calcium carbonate (CaCO3)!The ZFB:2 process will be available beginning in the summer of 2012.
